What we do at Starlight?
There are two types of Care Fees planning
Immediate Needs: for those already receiving professional Care, or about to, whether
at home, in a Nursing Home or Residential Care Home.
Future Care Fees: insurance and planning. It is our belief that with an increasingly ageing population it is unlikely that the government will be able to afford to pay for your care costs.

Immediate Needs
The object we seek
to achieve is to help you arrange your finances to protect your
capital and save property; at the same time guaranteeing that the
fees will always be paid for Nursing Care; whether it is at home,
in a residential care establishment or nursing home. There a specialist
plans and certain State Benefits available for this purpose; as
independent advisers we will report to you with the options available
and tell you about: Assessments; Enduring Powers of Attorney; Court
of Protection; Wills etc.
A Care Fees Plan is a special financial contract which guarantees
the payment of a regular 'TAX FREE' income for the lifetime of the resident
in exchange for a single, once only, lump sum payment.

Future Care Fees Insurance
Where your pension income is unlikely to meet the cost of care there are several applications and strategies to consider. Insurance can be bought to cover the anticipated shortfall between the cost of care and your income; appropriate investments and trusts can also play a useful function. The Starlight ‘shortfall calculator’ will indicate your own potential shortfall position. As with most things being prepared is the foremost part of your planning.
Knowing who is liable to pay for care and when you are liable to pay for your own care, described as being ‘Self Funding’;
- what the Local Authority will pay, when must they pay, what help can they give
- what does 'Free Nursing Care' pay for, and when?
- what is Attendance Allowance?
- what are 'disregarded' assets?
- what is the ‘disregard period’?
- what is a ‘third party top up’?
- your Will, ‘tenants in common’ and ‘joint tenants’
- ‘Enduring Power of Attorney’ what this is and why and when should this be arranged?
These are things you should, review, know about, and be prepared for.
Devising a strategy for you to meet your potential care costs and leaving an inheritance to the next generation will form the main part of our service as will inheritance tax planning where appropriate.
A report summarising your own situation, with projections, and providing recommended strategies, based on current legislation, is what a Starlight Future Care Report will provide for you.
