Who Pays? Often the circumstances before someone needs care are stressful and little attention is paid to the situation as regards who is to pay for the care, until it happens. Residential care costs vary between districts and experience shows that what might cost £450 per week in the provinces can cost £700 per week in metropolitan areas; care at home can cost much more. Residents (the person needing care) who have assets more than £22,500 (in 2005) are required to be “Self Funding” until their assets fall to this level, even then there is an assumed income which is deducted until finally there is only £12,000 left.
